Winter – Christine Mørkved (Norway, 2015)

It is quiet except from the sound of a minister speaking, as a funeral is taking place at a cemetery. Among the mourners is Silje, a 9 year-old girl. She avoids looking at the casket, letting her focus drift, as to not to take in the situation and deal with her grief. Silje watches the other mourners: the adults standing around the grave are all grim faced and dressed in black, like silhouettes of grief. She observes them as the funeral’s social rules are broken and the group tries to reinforce order.
